Unique features

The historic home was built in 1925.  The garage with new apartment above was finished in 2012,  constructed with exterior architecture in keeping with the style of the historic home.  The apartment interior is very modern and efficient, century old floors reclaimed from a beer warehouse in Fort Worth, Texas. Centrally located between MoPac (Loop 1) and Interstate-35, we have access easily to both in five minutes.

The apartment is well insulated with a high efficiency heat pump for heating and cooling;  a tankless water heater supplies all the hot water you can possibly use.  Rice is an experienced world traveler and has tried to put everything into the space that a visitor could need.  The Sony - 50" Class - LED - 2160p - Google powered Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range is connected to our accounts via the Apple TV 4K (hardware) on YouTube TV, Netflix, Max (formerly HBO), Disney+, Paramount+, Showtime and Amazon Prime TV. The Sony TV’s native Google system interface is only connected to YouTube TV and the Apple TV+ app.  All the local broadcast HD TV channels are available as well. A Sonos surround sound system streams beautiful sounds from not only the TV but Apple Music & Pandora plus many others over a gigabit Google Fiber network, including our own music collection. Even Wifi speeds are typically over 200-400Mbps in both directions. A Google Nest Hub, Apple HomePod & Amazon Echo can answer all of your local questions in addition to the Google TV.

Kitchen

The kitchen is equipped with cooktop and GE convection oven/microwave (up to ~450 deg.).  The kitchen does not have a built-in oven. A stand-alone toaster oven is in the drawer, a separate toaster, and a multi-speed blender.

Murphy bed & Convertible Sofa

This is a NORMAL QUEEN size bed.  It is like any other normal queen bed, except it is just stored vertically.  It rests on a 155 lb. substantial frame and is in no way similar to a skinny fold out bed from a couch. Storing the bed vertically allows for efficiency of space.  It is made by the original Murphy Bed Company in Farmingdale, NY, the same way it has been made for the past 75 years. It can be lowered with two fingers, and is very easy to use and very comfortable.. It is hidden behind a fabric cover, which when open, forms a 'wall' to the bedroom space. The Murphy bed is adjacent to the wardrobes, lavatory, and bath. The bed has a gel top on the mattress to make it even more comfortable. Feather (2) and synthetic (2) pillows are provided. The convertible sofa is a full size queen bed too. Instructions on how it transforms can be found here.
